چکیده
PURPOSE Urinary excretion of N acetyl-beta-D glucosaminidase (NAG) and β(2)-microglobulin (β(2)-M) was increased in the presence of proximal tubular damage. Based on these urinary materials, we investigated the ability of expecting renal function in chronic glomerular diseases. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between glomerular filtration rate (GFR) urinary NAG, and urinary β(2)-M. METHODS We evaluated 52 children with chronic kidney disease at the Chung-Ang University Hospital between January 2003 and August 2009. We investigated the 24-hour urinalysis and hematologic values in all 52 patients. Serum creatinine, creatinine clearance (Ccr), serum cystatin C, urinary β(2)-M and urinary NAG were measured. RESULTS Out of 52 patients, there were 13 children with minimal change in disease, 3 children with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, 17 children with immunoglobulin A nephropathy, 15 children with Henoch-Schönlein purpua nephritis, 3 children with poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis, and 1 child with thin glomerular basement membrane disease. In these patients, there were significant correlation between the Ccr and urinary NAG (r=-0.817; P<0.01), and between the GFR (as determined by Schwartz method) and urinary NAG (r=-0.821; P<0.01). In addition, there was a significant correlation between the GFR (as determined by Bokencamp method) and urinary NAG (r=-0.858; P<0.01). CONCLUSION In our study, there was a significant correlation between the GFR and urinary NAG, but there was no correlation between the GFR and urinary β(2)-M, suggesting that the GFR can be predicted by urinary NAG in patients with chronic glomerular disease.

Is urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase a marker of urological abnormality in children?
Abstract Background: Hydronephrosis is the most common congenital condition that is detected by prenatal ultrasonography. Moreover, the widespread use of prenatal ultrasonography results in an increased recognition of fetal hydronephrosis. Prenatal hydronephrosis is diagnosed at an incidence of 1:100 to 1:500 by ultrasonographic studies. The presence of hydronephrosis is not synonymou...

The urinary extraction of albumin, retinol binding protein, and N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase were studied in 60 children with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and in 45 normal children to find out whether the renal tubules played a part in causing the early increase in urinary excretion of albumin that occurs in diabetes mellitus. Two overnight urine samples were collected and the protein...

1. To evaluate tubular damage in diabetic patients, we measured the 24 h urinary excretion of five enzymes (N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, dipeptidyl aminopeptidase IV, alanine aminopeptidase and alkaline phosphatase) that originate in renal proximal tubular cells. 2. Studies were performed on 118 non-insulin-dependent diabetic patients, 59 non-diabetic patients...

AIM To investigate factors that influence urinary tissue factor (uTF) measurements: glomerular permeability and filtration, tubular function, haematuria, and urine bacterial growth. METHODS uTF, protein creatinine index, glomerular filtration rate, retinol binding protein, N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) and urinary haemoglobin (uHb) were measured in patients with hypertension, diabetes...

Background: The kidneys perform glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, and tubular secretion and the study of urinary excretion of some enzymes considered as a sensitive test for the detection of early stages of renal disease, particularly N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) which is a hydrolytic lysosomal enzyme present in the epithelial cells of the proximal convoluted tubule. Increased ...
